Zinda Dil Art Group is a drop-in lunch club held on Mondays for women over 50 of South Asian heritage at Deeplish Community Centre. Working in partnership with Cartwheel Arts, the group uses Arts for Wellbeing to explore their creative expression, wellbeing, and as a social group for peer support.
The group has worked on a variety of creative activities over recent years, including textile banners, clay work, painting and drawing. More recently, they have also completed a digital project & jewellery making, watercolour painting, print making, and embroidery. As well as visual arts, they also enjoy creative writing, poetry and regularly have meditation, movement and yoga sessions.
The group has contributed to several research projects, including with the University of Manchester. Recently, the group has completed an Everyday Heritage project with Historic England Funds, exploring the working class history of those that visit Deeplish Community Centre and to celebrate the centre’s 35th anniversary.
Currently, the group is working on ‘The Deeplish Art Almanac’, which is an Arts Council England funded project through Deeplish Community Centre. The group members are exploring the local area’s wildlife, plants, and the cycles within nature and will be working towards completing a printed Almanac booklet.
