Rafia Hussain Productions

Rafia Hussain Productions is a new company led by experienced independent theatre producer Rafia Hussain, focused on telling Black and Brown stories and developing artists. We believe that every story is unique and deserves to be told in the most compelling way possible. From thought-provoking dramas that explore the depths of the human condition, to heartwarming comedies that offer moments of respite, we will curate a diverse slate of projects that celebrate the richness of the cultural heritage of artists from historically excluded backgrounds. The two main strands of our work are: 1) Commissioning, producing and touring Black and Brown work nationally and internationally. 2) Developing artists and producers locally in Rochdale. Mission *Commission and produce Black and Brown plays, performance art and musicals, ensuring these projects are resourced and well-supported. *Cultivate and sustain a thriving network of venues and audiences for Black and Brown work. *Develop new Rochdale artists and producers through workshops, mentoring and paid development opportunities. Values *Creativity - we nurture creative potential in professional and pre-professional artists. *Environmental Justice - we are mindful in our approach to and relationship with: pay, resources and travel. *Social justice - we strive for best practice and for our work to be part of the collective effort to dismantle oppressive systems and build better ones. *Education - we believe in knowledge sharing, investment in skills development and telling stories that widen perspectives. * Collaboration - we reject traditional theatrical hierarchies and prioritise mutual respect and working towards a shared vision.
