Founded in July 2022, Move Manchester is an innovative Greater Manchester Dance Theatre company, led by co-founders Jack Hilton (credits; Ballet Boyz and Hawk Dance Theatre) and Ayesha Fazal (credits; Sonia Sabri Company and Highly Sprung) who have both toured, performed and taught internationally and nationally for 10+ years. In line with our identity as a queer, ethnic majority, non-binary, South Asian, and neuro-divergent led company we create works that challenge societal norms, promote diversity, and inspire change.
Our movement style combines varied genres (Release, Gaga, Floor-work, Latin/Ballroom, Capoeira, Classical Indian, Physical theatre, and Yoga) in a dynamic explosion of culture and story telling. In addition to stage performance, we curate shows for indoor, outdoor, and public spaces. We believe in taking our art beyond traditional venues and ensuring accessibility, challenging the boundaries of contemporary dance and reimagining the relationship between art and public spaces. We have performed in multiple cities across the North (including: Manchester, Rochdale, Salford, Warrington, Lancaster, Hull, Leeds, & Preston to name a few) performing in varied spaces such as on open top buses, vacant shops, museums and theatres.
Beyond performance, Move Manchester provide engaging outreach and opportunities across the North. Notably we have created the Makers Mix event (artist development supporting 100+ artists from the North), delivered 4 SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) movement projects across Greater Manchester (engaging 50+ young SEND people in dance), delivered CPD sessions (on Gender/Queerness and Boys dance) and taught dance workshops to 850+ young people from the North. Through these initiatives, we empower individuals and communities, fostering creativity and self-expression. As we continue to grow, Move Manchester is determined to champion the unique artistic voices of the North. We proudly represent our region, working to increase exposure, inclusion, and appreciation for the diverse artists in the North, we strive to contribute to a vibrant and thriving arts scene that reflects the rich tapestry of identities and cultures within our community.
