04 October, 2024

This month’s Peter’s Field Middleton show is sold out! but fear not - they’ve just released tickets for another performance at Halle at St Michael’s on Thu 20 March 2025.

To celebrate #EuropeanFolkDay on Monday 23rd September, Manchester Folk Festival shared an exclusive Peter’s Field Q&A with The Young’uns’ Sean Cooney and Sound Roots CEO Tom Besford.

Check out the Q&A here

Peter’s Field from Sean Cooney, with Eliza Carthy and Sam Carter.

A new Rochdale made musical marking one of the most momentous days in working class history.

On 16th August 1819, 60,000 working people gathered peacefully in Manchester to advocate parliamentary reform at a time when most people could not vote. 3,000 came from Middleton in Greater Manchester. They were violently dispersed by the authorities who sent in the yeomanry cavalry to arrest the speakers and clear the field. At least 18 people were killed and hundreds injured in what became known as the Peterloo Massacre.

With 15 original songs and a compelling narrative drawn from hundreds of eye witness accounts, The Song of Peterloo had been written by award winning songwriter (and member of the Young’uns) Sean Cooney. Joined by twice Mercury nominated Eliza Carthy MBE and critically acclaimed guitarist and singer songwriter Sam Carter, Peter’s Field is a story of struggle, tyranny, liberty and hope.
